This journey invites you into the possibility of thinking your life beyond the edge of your awareness… Beyond what is already known and formulated…
From the depth of your unique Soulprint… As sacred commitment to the unknown…
We see, usually with a startle, how vastly differentiated anything is that we care about, and if we care to deal with it we must allow that. It lets us see how vastly different anything is from the simplistic schemes that we usually use to think about anything. With our model and method we can differentiate…many steps into the actual complexity, rather than merely deploring the supposed poverty of thinking in relation to anything.
Eugene Gendlin
TAE has a social purpose. We build our inter-human world further. It is not true that merely developing as individuals will somehow change the patterns in which we must live. We need to build new social patterns and new patterns of thought and science. This will be a mutual product no single person can create.
Eugene Gendlin
This course is based on the TAE (Thinking at the Edge) process developed by Eugene Gendlin, together with additional steps developed at our Institute. These steps have grown out of an ongoing exploration of Gendlin’s work and many years of practical experience accompanying hundreds of students in Israel and internationally.
It begins with clarifying our uniqueness by tracing personal life experiences and continues by exploring areas of life – such as professional practice, research, or creative work- in which we have accumulated rich experience and embodied, implicit knowing. This unique knowing is implicit in our bodies and is seeking its explication.
Throughout the process, we learn how to develop a “private language” that enables us to articulate what has not yet been said, create new and more refined concepts and processes, and develop subtle steps and tools for working with others.
The journey culminates in a stage where, from all that has been revealed, a new direction for our lives can emerge: an area of expertise, a field of inquiry, or a creative endeavor through which we wish to carry our life forward.
Most of the time, we are accustomed to “thinking outward”, turning to sources already written and formulated by others in order to enrich ourselves. Often, without noticing, we lose touch with a natural human capacity: the ability to turn toward an inner source of knowing – rich, intricate, and deeply our own – and think from it.
Sometimes we feel that we are not capable of creating knowledge that could be meaningful to others. At other times, we simply lack the tools to reach the “wellspring of our lives” from which our uniqueness can emerge and become a contribution to the world.
TAE is for anyone wishing to deepen and develop their professional practice; for those seeking greater clarity and a significant step forward in their lives; for people engaged in creative processes who wish to listen for what is emerging beyond their current edge; and for organizations seeking to discover their next possible step.
Whether your work involves research, education, therapy, leadership, the arts, or personal development, TAE offers a path for thinking from the richness of lived experience and bringing forth something genuinely new.
Enrollment in the course requires a basic familiarity with Focusing. If you have not studied Focusing before, please contact us personally to discuss whether the course is suitable for you.
Shakio is a space for collaborative exploration founded by Dana Ganihar, an experienced Focusing instructor and a teacher of the philosophy of Eugene Gendlin, and Baruch Brenner a multidisciplinary artist, rabbi and certified Focusing instructor who investigates and teaches performance art and Jewish mysticism.
A pioneer of the Focusing movement in Israel. She studied directly with the father of Focusing, Eugene Gendlin, along with other leading teachers in the field around the world. Dana served on the global board of the International Focusing Institute and is dedicated to advancing Gendlin’s teachings. Dana has initiated cooperative research exploring the potential impact of Focusing practices on diverse fields such as biology, architecture, creative writing, and religion. She is a co-author of ‘The Art of Prayer’ (2025).
An interdisciplinary artist and an ordained Orthodox Rabbi. Baruch has been a leading innovator in integrating Jewish and spiritual practices with experiential work in Art. Over the course of thirty years, he has dedicated himself to researching the world of the body as a vehicle, the realm of consciousness, the language of imagination, and transformational practices through working with ancient songs. Brenner is the author of ‘A Diary of a Worshiper’ (Idra Publishing, 2022) – a book based on a personal initiation journey into the world of Kabbalah and the mystery of prayer. He is also a co-author of ‘The Art of Prayer’ (2025).
The program is structured in three stages. Each stage culminates in an intensive workshop dedicated to the practical application and integration of the knowledge that has emerged during that phase.
These workshops are not part of Gendlin’s original TAE process. However, as in any genuine creative process, the insights and understandings that emerge through TAE are not meant to remain merely conceptual or “stay in a drawer.” For this reason, we have integrated unique workshops into the program, developed through many years of accompanying individuals and groups in creative processes. These workshops help participants transform their emerging knowing into concrete forms, projects, practices, and contributions.
This stage teaches not only how to extract this knowledge but how to “rescue” it from general understandings and public languages that often hold it within what is already familiar and known, limiting its further development. As this process unfolds, we begin to discover the depth, richness, and wisdom carried within our implicit knowing, dimensions that have not yet been thought, articulated, or fully lived.
Stage A concludes with a special workshop dedicated to integrating what has been discovered and developed into the reality of our lives as they are being lived now.
In this stage, we further unfold our knowing and clarify what is implicit within it. We begin to discover and formulate the structures, patterns, and organizing principles that emerge from our evolving understanding. Through the process of Crossing its various aspects, the wisdom inherent in this knowing becomes more intricate and refined.
Stage B concludes with a special workshop, where we explore how to design a workshop or learning process through which this emerging knowledge can be conveyed to others.
In this stage, participants formulate a vision that can carry their lives forward while contributing to the world. Working at the living edge of their knowledge and expertise, they uncover deeper layers of implicit knowing and begin to articulate possible paths for future research, professional development, creative work, or contribution.
Stage C concludes with a special workshop in which, from the living edge of all that has been developed, participants formulate a “Mini-Theory”. At this stage, we allow ourselves to make a Sacred Commitment to the ongoing creation-ing of our lives, and our contribution to the world.

“We think more than we can say. We feel more than we can think. We live more than we can feel. And there is so much more still."
Eugene Gendlin
Human beings are experts in life and living. Each of us has innate sensitivities and unique ways of listening to Creation and to the unknown.
We are a creative process that manifests itself through each of us in a particular way. This is our Soul Print—the unique pattern that has been with us from the moment of our birth, and perhaps even before that (through generations, reaching back to ancient times).
TAE can help explicate the deepest implicit knowing that inspires our journey in this world, as part of the mystery of who we are.
This is not conventional knowledge. It is an implicit knowing without content, a knowing that belongs to a different order. Its explication can become a meaningful step, bringing blessing to our particular field of expertise.
Our human life is a co-created work of art. The creative process unfolds as we turn toward a different kind of order—an infinite order. The steps of TAE can support us in carrying this extraordinary creation forward.
