Nursing Standardized Patient page is loaded Nursing Standardized Patient Apply locations Lynchburg, VA time type Part time posted on Posted 5 Days Ago job requisition id R0006601 A Standardized Patient (SP) is a person of any age, race, or gender who has been trained to portray an actual patient by accurately and consistently simulating an illness or other physical and/or mental health finding. Additionally, SPs are trained to provide constructive feedback to all levels of nursing students about their professional and communication skills. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Work directly with the Executive Director of Simulation and Standardized Patients, APRN/DNP Simulation Center Director, and the Nursing Undergraduate Simulation Center Director to support the simulation learning environment for LUSON students across all programs, as well as the faculty and staff participating in simulation or nursing laboratory curriculum and activities. Reliability, punctuality, ability to work with others in a respectful manner, good communication, and interpersonal skills. Interest in furthering the education of advanced practice nursing students and undergraduate nursing students. Participation in this program is voluntary, and SPs will receive compensation for their time and service. Completion of the training session does not guarantee participation in the simulation with student encounters. SPs are matched based on the needs of the facility and faculty. SP training and simulations are non-invasive, in that there will not be any needles, tubes, scalpels, or medications involved. SPs will be expected to wear a patient gown, although undergarments will be worn underneath. During a student encounter, SPs are expected to reenact the same “patient” to each student in the same way. The SP must present their “condition” in the same manner with each student and then must react based on the student’s actions and questions. There can be no favoritism or discrimination towards any students. Faculty retain the privilege to remove standardized patients from scenarios when favoritism or discrimination is in question. When matched with a case scenario, the SP will be provided with the following information: The medical and personal facts about the patient to be portrayed. Please Note: The case material is confidential and should not be shared with anyone (or on any social media) . Sharing of any case information is considered an honor code violation and may result in review with the School of Nursing Honor Council and termination of contract. The “case” checklist with regards to the examination that the student will perform and what the SP needs to know to be able to react to them. A clear understanding of the feedback the SP is to provide to the student. All SP and student encounters are confidential. SPs agree to respect the student’s privacy and not discuss student performance with anyone other than faculty and staff. Video cameras and microphones will be utilized during SP encounters and reviewed by faculty and students during debriefing. Be aware of comments, facial expressions, or body language exhibited in the room before, during, and after student encounters. In order to perform as an SP, the Simulation Center Use Agreement and FERPA form must be signed. The SP will work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission. Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies Minimum Qualifications: Candidate will be professional with excellent personal communication skills and good computer skills. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent communication skills and computer skills. The candidate will need to be able to demonstrate excellent memorization skills and professionalism. The candidate will need to be very comfortable working with doctoral and undergraduate student nurses.
