Prayer is a living process that transforms the one who prays through an inner revelation unfolding within prayer itself.
"In the depths, a person does not pray for the sake of life, but rather to 'know' life in a new way. This is the primal prayer that lies at the foundation of all prayers."
From A Worshipper's Diary
Prayer is not an escape into the future, but rather an opening of consciousness to the unfolding possible of life now. It is not an action occurring outside of existence – it is that which creates it. It is a lucid, life-transforming movement that precedes all thought and all theology.
A journey of many years has culminated in the founding of the School for the Art of Prayer, which teaches the steps and provides the tools that enable a person to listen to the “revealed” and to open the “possible” or the “requested.”
This journey is nourished by encounters with great teachers who embodied living knowledge; deep immersion in Jewish Mysticism (Kabbalah); and the study and practice of the philosophy developed by Eugene Gendlin. His work teaches us to listen to the movement of life through “emerging inner knowledge.”
It is further grounded in years of research in the world of art, focusing on the secrets of the body, consciousness, and language. Above all, it has been enriched by partners, friends, and students whose sincerity and uncompromising will to move into the depths have expanded this sacred space.
Prayer, as a model for living, is a mode of action in the world that requires learning and practice. It evolved not only to provide a response to the search for meaning and tools for traditional prayer, but as a new model of life — one that enables a person to live from the fullness of their human stature.
For many, the concept of prayer is colored by their biographical background. For some, it has been a significant part of their world, often holding great meaning that calls for deeper exploration. For others, to whom the concept was foreign, there often remains a sense that there is “something more” that prayer points toward — states of consciousness and life-possibilities waiting to be revealed.
Our courses are relevant to both those rooted in tradition and those entirely new to prayer. Their purpose is to open new understandings and gateways, allowing one to go beyond the familiar and open a window to the profound movement of life. These courses are also significant for individuals who integrate other practices into their lives but remain curious about the additional depths that prayer makes possible.
